Meet Chubby!

Meet Chubby, the cheeky mealworm who loves showing you around his website. This crisp, highly adaptable brand identity is instantly recognisable and friendly. Chubby is a stand alone character and can be presented in any pose and for multiple uses, for example on stationery and any form of marketing material. His name is 'Chubby' but reading the two words 'Chubby Mealworms' together forms the company name. This not only links your character directly with the business but indirectly encourages the perception that your product is a good quality, ie: the mealworms are chubby. Also, 'chubbymealworms.com' is available. This vector based identity works well on dark and light backgrounds, in black and white, is fully scalable and readable at all sizes. I'm happy to follow advice regarding changes to any aspect of the design. I trust this meets the brief and look forward to receiving feedback. Thank you for your time and consideration. Kind regards, Nicholas Halliday. HallidayBooks (UK).

    Hi Nick,

While looking into websites etc. I have coem across a slight problem with this logo. On nearly all website templates I have seen and also when submitting logos to other sites such as Amazon or shopping comparison sites the dimensions of the logo box are always with a landscape aspect such as 250px x 100px. When re-sizing this logo to fit in such a space the logo itself ends up tiny with lots of white space around it. Would you be able to have a play around and modify chubby so it would fit nicely into this kind of aspect?

    Thanks,

    Ben

Personally I think 'Chubby' is the best so far. I worked a while on the name alone and think it give a great impression. I also think the whole look has come together well. I'm happy to make any changes but think he's great as he stands. My daughter who's 14, loves Chubby and said 'Can I have the toy when it comes out.'
    Regards Nick.

We may be a while off a toy but the wife also loves chubby just as he is so he is looking good just as he is!

Hi - Wow I think this looks awesome well done! I love the character and like you said that can be used on pretty much anything. If I later decide to expand the brand into other foods / treats I think we could still use the chubby name and logo and it would still fit well. I can't think of any necessary changes really, I will let you know if I think of any. The only thing maybe a bit worrying is if he looks a little rude! Chubby.com is a dodgy site!!

I would say it is winning so far though, if you get chance see if you can do anything else with him or have any alternative names.

    Thanks again,

    Ben

As to other character poses, I've also thought about his. Can I suggest £60 for each of the first three additional images. Thereafter I should have a little library of parts, and can put our worm together more easily for £40 per character. Let me know your thoughts. As to websites, I did design and build my own and have done for a few other clients. I use Adobe Dreamweaver, part of the latest CS suit and a great programme. I understand some code but DW does not require the user to know what's in the background. I could certainly design and build a website for you, but I imagine you'd need a real developer to build your shop and ordering system. Designinging a site which looks great would be a pleasure and we can discuss costs for that depending on which route you take.

      Regards Nick

PS: Thanks for the comments about the books. If I win I'll send you a signed copy of 'The Lonely Tree' for the kids (No pressure then!)

      Hi Nick,

Matey mealworms would probably be my favourite out of the ones listed above. I have to say though that Chubby is still the preferred choice!

The logo prices seem fair enough to me thanks - especially after a free signed book has been thrown into the mix.

The eCommerce technology I want to use is probably going to be shopify so it is just a theme that needs designing. If you have not used this before though it would probably take you more time to learn the system than would be worthwhile. With a selection of logos and colours decided though it should be pretty straight forward for a shopify expert to pull a good looking site together.

      Thanks,

      Ben

Hi Ben, thanks so much for the feedback, that made me smile. I agree Chubby is successful as he stands but do understand the need to err on the side of caution where names are concerned. I did actually think 'Chubby' a little un-PC (Hate having to panda to that sort of thing, but this is the real world). So ... rather than change anything to drastically now, how about I ponder on the name. He can still be a cheeky chap and I'm sure I can make the name and idea flow through the branding as 'Chubby' does now. Thanks again, and I'll get back to you asap. Regards Nick. (PS: Just googled 'Chubby.com' ... oh dear!)

Hi Nick, Sorry for the late response I only just noticed this message. Did you manage to think of any different names? Also do you know any web designers experienced with Magento or Shopify that may be able to turn this design into a great looking website (or can you do this kind of thing?).

If this is the winning design how much would you charge for variations of the character to be used for different things if necessary? Would you have to do this or should any experienced designer be able to modify the image? Will we have all the image files etc?

      Thanks again,

      Ben

P.S. I looked at your publishing website and the books look great. I have a 1 and a 3 year old so they would love those books!
