Breca Swimrun is a new company that organises long distance Swimrun races in the most stunning and rugged wilderness locations in Europe.
The name Breca is derived from the most epic swimming contest in literature: the seven day race between Breca and Beowulf across icy windswept seas. Breca emerges from the water victorious; however, on being chided by Unferth for his defeat, Beowulf points out he only lost as he stopped to fight sea monsters along the way.
Whilst the sea monsters will be lacking from our races, the events will nevertheless be a true test of strength against the open water and the trail. The Breca Swimrun team have 30 years combined endurance experience, in events ranging from 100 mile ultra marathons to the Mongol Derby, the Norseman Xtreme Triathlon, the Ö till Ö and the Transylvanian Bear Race. We understand what makes a great event.
Swimrun is a new and exciting sport that is shaking up the world of endurance racing. Participants run and swim through a landscape, transitioning multiple times between the two disciplines. Events are completed in their entirety wearing trainers, a wetsuit and a hydration system; i.e. participants are required to run in a wetsuit and swim whilst wearing trainers and a hydration system. The sport naturally originated in Sweden as a drinking competition between two brothers. The first race was held in 2006 and the sport has grown steadily since then.
Experienced endurance athletes, in particular triathletes, fell runners, open water swimmers and ultra runners. Male and Female. Aged 20-45. Typically AB demographics.
