I am running this contest as a way of finding an artist/illustrator for some long term (periodic) work illustrating children stories.

The Contest consists of the following:

1) A one page illustration (to clarify, I am looking for a cover page...illustrating a whole book comes later)

2) Color required. Medium is open to the artist.

3) The illustration has to be based on the attached story "Mechanical Fairy”.

4) The illustration will be used in a fairy tale e-book and the artist name will be included. If, in the future, a collection of all the e-stories make it a paper book publication the artist will still be credited for the work. The use of the art work will be kept to these two venues. Any additional usage of the artwork will only come at the permission of the artist.

5) In all likelihood the artwork will be used as a way to find a long term artist for various projects, at which time proper compensation will be negotiated.

6) Please add a price amount in case your submission doesn't win, as I may still want to purchase.

7) For any additional questions, please send me an e-mail.

Finally, don't over think it. Go with your gut and get creative. In short have fun with it. If you are not having fun with it, you are probably not the long term artist I am looking for! :)

PART 3: 6) Analyncochon: I loved the entry. One of the few that pictured a very young princess, an adoring father and a mechanical fairy. Strong presentation. The only thing is, I love your Manga illustrations better and I have a story that requires Manga illustrations for which I would like to keep you in mind.
7) Joellebest: Loved the mechanical wings on your fairy. However l really like your other style of illustration better and we will definitely talk about illustrating a story.
Like I said, it was very hard to make a choice. Thank you all for participating and showing such a wide range of talent. I wish I can use all the fairies at one time. I have written a lot of different stories and I look forward to working with as many of you as I can find stories to fit art styles. Thanks again.

PART 2: 3) StudioNymph: The artwork was very pretty and was perhaps the best looking Princess of them all. Not totally right for this cover, but the artwork is very pretty overall.
4) Olgicaboshevs: Very beautiful fairies overall. I look forward to finding a place for her artwork in the future.
5) Adeenagrubb: I loved the way the work developed over three entries and I think it’s a very good style (a bit unusual, but I like it) for children’s books. Since I would like to put together a fairy book with different stories that have different art styles, I can see how this style can be developed in a story. I liked it.

PART 1: It was a hard decision to make as I loved a lot of the entries.
I picked the entry by Orbnorsolya because of originality, color, and kid friendliness.
Runner Up: A very close second was the entry by pliiats, which was a very good presentation of the entire story in one cover. The only small probably I had with it was with the fairy itself. I felt the presentation of the other characters was so good that it took away from the fairy.
I have bought at least one other entry, and will probably buy a few more, as I like the entries as a whole.
Honorable mention as follows:
1) Persefonis: This original fairy entry had a very strong use of color. I like the style for perhaps another type of story.
2) Giobanfi68: Had a very strong overall presentation, but it was not a 100% original fairy. Still, I liked his overall presentation a lot.

NOTE: All amazing looking fairies...I wish there was more than one prize. The artist are from all over the world, Italy, Great Britain, Macedonia, Romania, Canada and much more. For those who don't win, I plan on writing a story for each style of fairy and contacting a fairy from you. It will take time, as I can only write stories so fast (I am traveling for work and in process of moving)...but I would like to compile a fairy from each country and write a story for each and put them all in a book where people can see such great and different styles of art....Be patient with me after the contest and I will get to your style and send out a project....I gave one of the artist a project today based on their style of art and plan on doing that for a while...as long as I have a story to match....Thank you for participating and submitting such great work so far.

NOTE from Contest Holder: OK, a lot of you are doing a great job with this. It's going to be hard to pick a winner since I like a lot of the different styles of fairies. If at the end I don't pick someone's fairy but I like their style I promise to write a story to fit their style of fairy. Within reason...I can't pick 100 fairies but maybe top 3 or top 5 I can contact the artist and work on a story and fairy with them. I appreciate all the different ideas and all the wonderful talent involved in this tiny contest.

  Good point on the story. But it's on a site with a date on it, and I should now have a few people, including you, who know where the story came from :)...and I have lots of fairy stories. :)...I just need a good illustrator for them :)...BTW, good job on your entry.

  Hi, thank you for the nice words. Yes, her face is made out of metal. I would imagine it (as I drew her a few times on my own, with tiny bolted panels that distract from her beauty...but that's me, you are free to be creative). And of course she has a dress!...Poor thing if she didn't. Given I know little about dresses, you can get as fancy as you would like or as simple. Up to you. But thank you for taking an interest.

  OK. Let me clarify...I am basically looking for cover art. I like the idea of illustrating the more than one page...but to be fair, I would pay more for that. For right now let's just go with "One Cover Page."
