Illustration Brief – "Three Questions That Changed Work" Overview This illustration accompanies a long-form Substack article exploring the historical evolution of workplace surveillance. The article argues that workplace surveillance has evolved through three distinct eras, each driven by a different managerial question: 1. Are you working? (Observation) 2. How well are you working? (Measurement) 3. What are you likely to do next? (Prediction) Rather than illustrating surveillance technologies themselves, I'd like the artwork to visualise the changing relationship between workers and organisational knowledge over the past 250 years. CH, pay close attention here, most entries in this competition are going to be AI generated, it's around 99% AI. These scammers post HUNDREDS of AI images each and try to dominate the results, but they can be spotted. Look for the pattern of entries being submitted all within a very short space of time. A hand crafted design takes real time, thought, and effort, making it impossible for any genuine designer to post multiple completely different entries in quick succession. Click on any entry and select "See All" to view the full scope of their activity and how fast they've been posting. ALWAYS CLICK SEE ALL. I mean this sincerely, any and every entry you're interested in, SEE ALL. ALSO PLEASE NOTE!!! AI-generated images are without copyright protection, leaving any third party fully able to copy the design, which could eventually lead to legal disputes over ownership or usage rights.

I created it around the full “Three Questions That Changed Work” concept — showing one worker moving through observation, measurement, and prediction, with the surveillance system evolving from watchtower to stopwatch to AI/data modelling. I kept the tone editorial, thoughtful, and not dystopian as requested. I’d be happy to refine anything if needed.
