NOTE: Yesterday I posted this as a project, but after seeing how many people were bidding on it (and my total noob-level experience with posting projects here), I decided that a crowd-sourced approach might be a better way to go about this. So I'm re-posting it as a contest - details on what I'm looking for and rules listed below.
I work a LOT of hours doing tech support on a graveyard shift in downtown St. Paul, MN. I'm looking for a place to live that's closer to work, but with my schedule I don't have time to apartment hunt. What I need is someone who can find me places to check out on my days off and will schedule the appointments, so all I have to do is show up and decide if I like the place.
Basically I'm looking for a 2bd - house/apt/condo/duplex. Needs to be about 30 mins or less by public transit from downtown St. Paul, MN (under 10 mins walk to transit stop & must run on late night Saturdays - I get off work at 12:30 am).
It needs to have a washer & dryer in unit (or at least hookups for them), and a dishwasher.
My budget's $1200 a month, but I'm more concerned with getting the best bang for my buck, so I'm willing to take a place that's not as nice for cheaper, or a place that's UP TO my budget limit if it's nice enough. (BE FOREWARNED: Many multi-unit landlords/property management companies will give a price RANGE and a bedroom RANGE. For example: "Studio - 3 bedroom apartments that range in price from $950-$1650/mo." That does me no good if their 2bd units are all $1500/mo, or if they have studio/1bd units available, but no 2 bedroom units. Or if they manage SOME units within my commute distance, but the only actual vacancies they have are all outside of my travel range. Some of these folks are tricky like that, so get a specific address, bedroom #, and price for the vacant unit they're trying to rent out.)
No senior living or income restriction ones, please (not talking about the ones that say "must have income X times more than rent - that's just a landlord trying to make sure you'll pay rent so I get that). Disability ones are fine since my younger brother who lives with me is on disability (no special amenities like wheelchair access required though since he's autistic, not physically handicapped).
Then you just shoot me a message with the links for the places you find that meet that criteria. I'll screen through them real quick and any place that I like that hasn't already been chosen AND has an appointment scheduled, I'll get back to you and let you know that I'm good with your pick. At that point I'll also send you a link to my calendar, then you just schedule an appointment (that DOESN'T conflict with my work schedule or any other appointments other people have scheduled) for me to go check it/them out in person on my days off. Whatever place I end up moving into, the person who introduced me to the property AND scheduled the appointment is the winner. Simple enough?
Also, I'm NOT making this a "Guaranteed contest." Not because I want to skip out on paying the prize money, but because I don't have complete control over whether or not I actually get a particular place. I may like your choice the most, but if the property management co. selects someone else or wants to reschedule an appointment or something, through no fault of your's or mine - then I still don't have a place to move to, and this whole thing would have been a waste of time. I WILL keep this contest going until I move though, and when I do move I'll announce a winner.
**In the event of more than one person submitting the same location, my default on choosing a winner will be based on who followed the rules best and scheduled the appointment, so PLEASE read the rules and criteria carefully and follow them completely. Remember, this is the first impression I'm going to be making on a potential landlord, that I'm hopefully going to be dealing with on a regular basis - so I'm counting on you all here.**
