Need Help Tweaking Logo Design for branding

Contest Brief

This design will be used as the branding logo for a small company printing t-shirts, sports gear, and other small collectibles. Final design needs to have capability of repetitive uses in varying sizes. So, an all around logo, as well as just the name & font consistent. I've included two current looks, but it needs to be updated. Company's name is "Hillbilly Bud Surf Co." and the surf part is part of a joke, so only a nod to the surfboard. The consumers are hunters and rednecks and people who participate in extreme sports like whitewater rafting, spelunking, mountain climbing, parachuting, etc.

The profile of 'Bud' is included & doesn't need much tweaking, if any as we like it as is. But, needing help with finding a sans-serif font that is bold & rugged without looking too distressed simply because the messy look does not do well with the heat press/sublimation or smaller items. Also need help with making it look more like a logo, with the main focus on the profile and shotguns/rifle.

Things we like about current look is: like it being roundish in shape. Makes it easy for bumper stickers, hats, and front pocket t-shirts. Like that the name of company is in arc above Bud, but would be willing to consider other ideas. Like that the focus is on profile of Bud. Like the holes in the 'U' that look like a shotgun shot through it.
Things we do NOT like: don't like the surf board having so much real estate, it needs to be subtle, more as a small afterthought. Don't like too many small lines/elements, like the stars, they don't transfer well. Don't like the spacing or placement yet.

Here are some key descriptive words to use for inspiration:
Hillbilly, Redneck, Rustic, Country, Strong, Risky, Adventurous, Tough, Brawny, Burly, Hunter, Manly, Rugged, Dangerous, Harsh, Small Town, Bearded, Mountain Man, Hills of Tennessee… Hopefully you get the idea.

Need a vector graphic file of completed design.
If the designers would like, the Winner and/or those with likable designs will be contacted with future work for back of shirt designs.

  The "hillbilly", is the only element that everyone should use, because the customer provides it. But I think for you it was easier to get to the contest at the end, see what involvement is more likely to be winning, change some details and launch his proposal as "original". It is not honest. I dared to write to you after seeing your #35 proposal. You copied including the size and location of the stars! I know you did good contributions in your design, but you must present your ideas in a most original way. I am sure that if you have it proposed, could you present something more "yours". And the frelancers that you mention, made different proposals. Regardless of the outcome, taking into account my advice for the future and be creative

  #26 , #18 , #24 , #23 , #20 , #15 , #14 , #10 , #1 are just some that use a circle, 2 or 1 guns, the hillbilly and a surfboard in a circle because these items were included in the brief. I don't see you commenting on any of those designs. But I guess that I am flattered in a way, seeming I appear suck a threat to you.

Clarification: Title "Hillybilly Bud" MUST be a sans-serif font. Looking for something bold. Try to keep entries to just black and white for now. Thanks for all your participation.
