Very interesting take on the connection piece; it can be modified to be less than 45 degrees which means it can potentially print without support materials. The connector piece could possibly be printed on end, also not requiring support unless the holes are moved into this area. The only thing I can think of which will make it better is if there is a way to physically connect it with a bolt/nut to make it a stronger when assembled. With HTPLA (I'm using it as a potential material to test) it may change dimensions if annealed at 100 C. Interesting design.

absolutly, i work in 3d printing prosthesis (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2564128 i was on this project, variations of Unlimbited project) and there we use printed connectors through pieces , with a pins like this https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1674320 (image below), works fine to assembly, but if you want to disassembly is preferring use new pins, are mostly of one use, pass through fine but cracks at the moment of remove, but, are an excellent solution.

or just an additional screw hole to fix the connector piece in a trusted way. Any change is easy to made, and fusion360 hace free personal use, i can give you a little tutorial to experiment with different parameters. I will try to upload a video.
