I am a published technical writer and editor who specialises in developer documentation and enjoys working on other types of content as well. I have contributed in companies of all sizes over the past 15 years. I'm looking for opportunities to help companies produce great developer documentation, or update their existing content for a new release or new version of the product. I can also edit and reformat original documentation produced by developers. I'm also interested in working on technical documentation conversions of all sorts, to help organisations moving their content from one platform to another. Among the conversions I have done: Sharepoint -> Confluence, HTML -> proprietary XML format, and DocBook -> Confluence XML. * Technical Documentation Experience * The primary focus of my writing career has been developer documentation - API reference materials and user guides, technical overviews, knowledge base articles, and integration guides. I have also written product release notes, IT support procedures, and end user documentation. I have designed numerous documentation formats and the knowledge architecture for Confluence implementations. Formats in which I have produced technical content include XML (DocBook, DITA, and proprietary schema), markdown, OpenAPI, HTML, Confluence, and Microsoft Word. * Market segments * Particular product segments for which I have written documentation include databases, development tools, operating system network protocols and APIs, and enterprise applications in healthcare and legal sectors. I have also co-authored introductory books on cybersecurity, networking, and Windows system administration. I have some exposure to AWS and Azure DevOps. * Global Orientation * Since source material is often provided to technical writers by academically-minded researchers and software developers from around the world, and I have worked for multiple global companies, I have had significant opportunities to edit complex content by non-native English speakers. * Technical Background * I worked as a software developer before switching to technical writing and can verify code and/or write small samples in multiple languages such as C, C#, javascript, perl, and XSLT. I have written code for database kernels, enterprise applications, security monitoring and forensics, and DevOps style IT operations support. At a recent employer, a fellow writer and I modernised the company's publishing toolchain, using perl and XSLT to transform content written in DocBook XML to Atlassian Confluence XML, and automatically publish the new pages to Confluence using the Confluence REST API. Tools I'm comfortable with include but are not limited to: XML editors such as XMetal and Oxygen, the Saxon XSLT processor, git, the UNIX and Windows command lines, various compilers and interpreters, and Atlassian Confluence and JIRA. At home, I have access to the full versions of Visual Studio and Microsoft office due to being Microsoft alumni. menos
