I'm looking for a skilled CAD designer to create a sheet metal part model. The model will be used for manufacturing, so accuracy is crucial. Requirements: - Moderate detail with some features - Suitable for manufacturing purposes - Finger jointing for laser cutting Ideal Skills: - Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) - Experience in sheet metal part design - Attention to detail and accuracy Experience in using sheet metal tools in to create finger joints where components intersect. Our project at hand is a surfboard hull design made with 1mm thick aluminum sheet metal. Laser cut internal ribbing will be used to stiffen the hull, similar to how an aircraft wing is constructed. Does this sound like something within your abilities? We will provide a 3D Cad model of the hull shell.

Hello: My name is Gustavo Colin, and I have over 20 years of experience in industrial design using Autodesk Inventor. I can model a surfboard hull optimized for sheet metal according to your sketches and specifications and provide you with the 3D files in Inventor's native format or generic formats such as STEP, STL, IGES, and OBJ. I can also provide the drawing files with all annotations, tolerances, and bills of materials in native format or in DWG, PDF, JPG, and even DXF for CNC processes (laser cutting). In principle, finger joints are not recommended for such thin sheets; I would suggest TIG welding. In my opinion, a single central rib is not sufficient support. I believe a lattice structure would be more suitable unless you plan to fill the spaces with some type of foam. I can generate rendered images for visualization of the finished product. You can see examples of my work in my portfolio. Regards.

With over 15 years of experience as a mechanical designer and metal fabricator, specializing in Autodesk Inventor, I can deliver a precise and buildable CAD model of your surfboard hull. I have strong experience in sheet metal design and creating finger joint geometries, ensuring accurate fit and efficient assembly. I focus on producing production-ready designs, not just visual models. Every project accounts for real-world constraints such as welding distortion, machining limits, tolerances, material availability, and installation requirements. This approach reduces fabrication issues, rework, and overall cost. I also use AI tools to speed up drafting and documentation, while maintaining full control over all engineering decisions, tolerances, and trade-offs. The result is a clean, accurate model that can be manufactured and assembled without guesswork.

I noticed you are seeking a precision sheet metal model, a task that aligns perfectly with my background in mechanical design where I recently completed a complex industrial bracket assembly requiring high-tolerance CNC folding. I specialize in translating conceptual sketches into production-ready assets using SolidWorks and Fusion 360, ensuring every flange and relief is optimized for the specific constraints of the fabrication floor. My focus is on delivering a model that transitions seamlessly from digital design to physical part, eliminating the risk of costly material waste or assembly mismatches during the initial production run. I will first establish the material properties and K-factors tailored to your chosen gauge, ensuring the flat pattern accounts for precise bend deduction and springback. I utilize specialized sheet metal modules to incorporate proper corner reliefs and miter rips, preventing material tearing during the forming process. If the part interfaces with an assembly, I will employ top-down modeling to guarantee perfect alignment of mounting holes and hardware clearances. The final package will include high-fidelity STEP files for 3D visualization alongside production-ready DXF flat patterns optimized for laser or waterjet cutting, ensuring your manufacturer has exactly what they need for an immediate, error-free setup. To ensure the first iteration is technically perfect, could you clarify the specific material thickness and if there is a preferred bend radius dictated by your fabricator's tooling? I am also curious if you require the flat patterns to include etched fold lines for the press brake operator. I am available to jump on a quick chat or a brief call to align on these technical specifications and can begin drafting the geometry immediately. I look forward to discussing how we can optimize this mechanical part for both durability and cost-effective manufacturing.

Greetings, Yes, this is well within scope. The key challenge here isn’t just modeling, but ensuring the ribbing + finger joints are manufacturable with 1 mm aluminum while maintaining structural integrity and clean assembly tolerances. We will import your hull shell and develop an internal rib framework using sheet metal tools in SolidWorks (or Autodesk Inventor if preferred). The rib structure will follow an aircraft-style approach—parametric sections aligned along the hull, with carefully spaced transverse ribs and longitudinal supports. Finger joints will be precisely designed for laser cutting, accounting for kerf, material thickness, and fit (press-fit or slip-fit depending on your assembly preference). Please note that our current bid is a ballpark estimate and we will finalise it thru' chat. Thanks & regards, Yasir LEADconcept
