I want to conduct a short study on composite inflatable beams. The beam would be made of alternate strips of soft material with different elasticities and thickness. One could be PU, which cannot be stretched but can be crumpled/folded - the other one being a thicker silicone/polymer that can stretch but is not compressible/squeezable. I want to have the model of a beam/sleeve of diameter 200mm made of a dozen of alternated strips. I want to study the behaviour of the beam when pressurised/depressurized. In which extend pressure creates a beam with a larger diameter and decrease the diameter when being depressurised, reducing the diameter. The silicone strips must be thicker to avoid collapsing, but rather to form a kind of "gallery" with the strips being self-locking. For a very first work, I'm not requiring specify values on the silicone shore or on the size of it.I want to check the relationship between the pressure and the change in diameter.
