The essay will assess a) your knowledge of topics we explored this term b) How well you use your academic texts to substantiate your arguments c) how clearly and accurately you convey key arguments from the readings you use d) how well you evaluate different approaches to the study of the social world e) how well you cite and reference academic and other sources. Please see the marking criteria on Moodle for further guidance.
We suggest that the essay follows the format below:
Introduction: this section could include
• an outline of your key argument
• definitions of any key concepts
• an outline of what you will discuss in the essay
Main section: this section should provide the arguments that ‘answer’ the essay question. It should be divided into paragraphs.
Conclusion: It should not introduce any new themes, but summarise your key arguments, and make it clear how they answer the essay question.
