For this paper for this course, you will be required to write a formal academic argument that uses at least three sources.
Pico Iyer, The Global Soul (A previous written essay will be attached that specifically talks about the same subject, so there will be enough resource for you to use.)
AN EXHIBIT SOURCE
Andrew Pham, Catfish and Mandala (A previous written essay will be attached that specifically talks about the same subject, so there will be enough resource for you to use.)
A SECOND EXHIBIT SOURCE
Pico Iyer, Maximum India ([url removed, login to view])
MY ARGUMENT (Its explained on Storyboard)
My audience is people who are considered as global souls, who feels that their transnational identity has left them feeling lost. I'm essentially saying: according to Iyer, feeling lost at first is part of the process of finding your way home. And to prove it, you'll use Iyer himself in Maximum India and Pham to prove it.
REMINDER : In using a source as a lens, you are using it as a Theory source, as described in the source models on our website. Therefore, your assumption is that the theory/lens proposes a way to understand a given topic, and the first and second exhibit sources provide an opportunity to demonstrate or test the validity of that theory. Or, another way to say this is: the lens provides new ways of viewing or insight into the exhibit sources.
Your challenges in writing lens essays include:
You will need to keep the rhetorical situation clear. It should be clear to your reader at all times that you are using a Theory source, which you are then applying to a case study.
You will need to be absolutely clear of a single argument/theory that you associate with your Theory source. If you have any ambivalence about what your Theory source is asserting, then your entire paper will suffer, because the guiding theory will not be clear enough to trace through the second and third sources.
Storyboard - Basically my argument outline and what I want to achieve on this paper.
You can use these sources, work around them a bit and apply them to the argument for this paper.
Paper 2 - Explains how Andrew Pham falls into Pico Iyer's global soul definition.
Paper 1 - Discusses how technology increases the globalization which leads the increase number in global souls.
