We're a uk research company looking to develop a tool that will monitor which websites / internet programs our panel use. The monitoring program will need to switched on/off (dependent on who is using the PC) and send information back to our server on:
Each website / page visited
Duration of stay on website
Use of instant messaging programs (how long the window is in focus for and which program - this will be between aol / msn / yahoo only)
This all needs to be date / time stamped in order for us to see how they're using the programs for instance we need to record them flicking between instant messaging / internet explorer. We also may want to monitor other programs they're using including word.
All data will be stored within a MSQL 2000 database - at this time we are open to recommendations as to how the data gets there i.e. whether it is sent to an application server first or direct to the database.
We're also open as to what langauge we produce it in. We're not sure how we will be doing the analysis yet potentially with SPSS (market research tool), however if you have recommendations on developing a specific tool we're again open to suggestions.
Develop a client / server application that records what a user is doing with their internet connection including what pages they're visiting, how long and what internet applications they use.
