Designing energy efficient office buildings
Official buildings account for a significant share of total electrical energy consumption of Singapore. More recently, there has been strong interest in addressing energy efficiency of high rise office buildings that are increasingly more reliant on air conditioning. It is of paramount importance to study number of energy saving and clean technology options on the demand side and ascertaining their relative contribution within the scale of Green Mark Incentive Scheme.
The aim of this project is to investigate “high performance” energy systems, utilizing existing energy estimation algorithms and indices, establish base lines for energy efficiency index (EEI) and evaluation of energy conservation technologies for High Rise office buildings of approximately 30,000 sq.m. Gross Floor Area. The project will employ such software as BEST (Building Energy Standard software), eQuest, OverseasHLC or approved equivalent for cooling load estimation. The software tool will be tested with the aim of developing energy efficiency benchmarks and diagnostics guide for building design and operation. Results of the project will have significant impact on improving the design and operation of energy efficient low carbon buildings in tropical climates.
