We have a functioning site that takes a user search term, then queries our database for relevant results that belong to our members. The query can be one or more words, but it's pretty simple.
Some of our members have data in a separate website. We would like our search page to also include the results of the same search at the external site.
The external site returns results to us in a fixed RSS format. We have no control over this RSS, nor the format of the query string.
Here is our search page:
[url removed, login to view] Enter the term "test" and see the results
Here is a sample of the external site query and the RSS it returns (searching for "test"):
[url removed, login to view]
I have no documentation of the query items, but one is obviously the search string while another (possibly V_ID) limits the results to only those of our members. Part of your assignment is going to be to investigate this query string and see what options we can use or manipulate, ie: can we pass multi-word queries, or use Boolean logic queries?
I need code to combine the external results on the same page, in a similar format as our results. I'd prefer not to make any major changes to our own page format. We will be recoding it to use more CSS and jQuery later, so just need relatively simple formatting for now.
UPDATE: Please have your own local server for testing. You can construct a simple backend without a database. Assume you have been given a variable that contains the search string (1 or more words), query the external server with that term and format the results to look like my existing results - [url removed, login to view]
I can not give you ftp access to my production server. If you give me code, I will install first on my test server, then upload to production.
Please let me know if I can clarify any of these requirements.
