1. Website Backup
We need to make a complete backup of the site capturing everything. We want the backup done before any changes are made to the site, as the website can be a little temperamental, e.g., one small change may cause something else not to work as designed, etc.
2. Top of All Pages
There is a running/”live” clock on the upper right hand side of the screen in a black band. That clock often displays the wrong time (and date), and frankly, customers don’t need it. We’d like to hide that clock from the user’s view. In fact, we’d like to hide everything that is enclosed in the red rectangle in the screenshot above. We would like the clock to remain and continue to keep time, as we need the website to continue to keep track of the amount of time folks put into a course, but we would like just this particularly clock hidden from the customer’s view. Is it possible simply to change the text color from white to black so the date/time info would simply blend into the black bar? That seems like the easiest way to take care of this issue.
3. “Register Now” Page (Part 1)
On the “Register Now” page, we would like to hide the “Company” and “How did you hear about us?” fields. Those two fields are tied to and feed a couple of our reporting tools, so we do not want to delete them because the deletion may have a negative effect on our ability to generate certain reports. So rather than deleting them, we ‘d simply like them hidden from that page.
4. “My Account” Page
We get a lot of phone calls from customers who don’t know what to do the first time they log into the site. They log into an empty “My Account” page and don’t know where to go to look for/buy courses. As a group, our customers are not too bright, but I can see the confusion so we’d like to make a small change to the “My Account” page to help guide them. I’m sure you’ll have a good idea how best to achieve this, but we’d like to add a very obvious button somewhere near the red arrow (below) that directs people to our list of courses. So simply adding a link that takes people to the “Courses” page would work wonders.
5. “Edit My Personal Info” Page (Part 1)
This page confuses a lot of our customers and needs adjustment. You can edit your personal information (the info you registered with), by clicking on the “Edit My Personal Info” button.
The most confusion arises when people try to change their passwords. The act of changing a password is simple enough, requiring only that a person type in the new password twice (so it matches) and then click on the “Save My Profile” button to save the changed password. Our customers get confused during this process in two ways. First, the words in red that advise people that they can only use numbers/letter in their passwords are always red, even after a person saves a new password. I can’t tell you how many calls I’ve received from people who tell me that our site is broken because they have entered a new password using only numbers and/or letters, but the site is not allowing them to save the password. Those people see the red words telling them to use numbers/letters only and assume that that is an error message telling them to try again, only the next time to use only numbers and/or letters. The color of the words needs change so it won’t look like an error message. Or is there an even better way to do it to tell people that they can only use numbers and/or letters in a password? Please use your expertise and make it less confusing.
The second point of confusion with the password change is that people can’t tell when the changes are saved. When someone clicks on the “Save My Profile” button, a statement shows up towards the top of the screen saying that the changes have been saved. Is there a better, more obvious way to convey that the changes have been saved?
Also, we’d like to change the save button from “Save My Profile” to “Save Changes” since that will be a little less confusing.
6. “Edit My Personal Info” Page (Part 2)
One more change that we need on this page is adding a button. We need a button that takes people to the “My Account” page. When we do this, though, we need to make sure that people are advised that they need to save any changes before leaving the “Edit My Profile” page.
7. “My Shopping Cart” Page
There is a “Discount Code” field on the “My Shopping Cart” page that allows customers to enter a discount code when making a purchase. The field is too long, and we would like it shortened. Ideally, we would like the “Discount Code” area to be easy to find and use, but not too big. Please see the red arrow below for the current location of the “Discount Code” area.
8. Taking Courses and Timing Issues
When a customer is taking a course, there is a clock/timer on the left side of their screen (see red arrow below). This is required by the State of Michigan. We definitely want and need to keep it because it is legally required.
That timer is also tied to a “minimum” amount of time that a student must accrue in the course (as reflected on the timer) before the student is allowed to finish a course. The website is currently set to require a student to put in 1/2 the amount of time that the course requires to get a certificate of completion. For example, if a student is working on a 2-hour course, the timer must show a minimum of 1 hour before the student can finish the course. Likewise, if a student if working on a 6-hour course, the timer must reflect a minimum of 3 hours before the student is allowed to finish. We would like to reduce that proportion to 10 minutes per hour (from the current 30 minutes per hour). So for example, if it is a 6 hour course, after the change, the student must spend 1 hour on it, or if it is a 2 hour course, the student must spend 20 minutes on it.
9. Insufficient Time
As mentioned in No. 14, above, a student must spend a minimum amount of time before being allowed to finish the course. If the student doesn’t spend enough time on the course, upon completion of the last quiz, a box pops up with red. We need to change the language in that text box.
10. Certificate of Completion
We need to change some of the language in a Certificate of Completion template.
