Hello, I have the expertise required to handle this project, having worked with FreePBX for many years. When it comes to server sizing, the hardware specs will depend on your target codecs, expected concurrent calls, and storage requirements. For security, enabling TLS/SRTP encryption along with proper firewall rules will be a priority.

I can design and deploy a secure, scalable FreePBX/Asterisk solution covering SIP trunks, extensions, IVR, queues, voicemail, routing, hardening, and operational readiness. I’ll assess users, concurrent calls, storage, redundancy, and growth requirements to recommend suitable server infrastructure, then deliver clear HLD, network diagrams, configuration documentation, and handover materials for reliable day-to-day administration.

Hello, Adam from New Jersey here. I am a senior engineer delivering FreePBX and Asterisk deployments, including the design and documentation side rather than configuration alone. On sizing: concurrent calls drive the specification far more than extension count does, and transcoding is what actually consumes CPU. If the trunk provider and the handsets agree on G.711, calls pass through with little load and modest hardware carries a lot of channels. Where transcoding cannot be avoided, the box needs sizing for that instead. Storage follows recording policy, roughly a megabyte per recorded minute plus retention, which is usually the number that grows unnoticed. Security is configured from the start, not added later: SIP restricted to the provider's addresses rather than open, anonymous inbound disabled, strong extension secrets, fail2ban, and TLS and SRTP where the trunk supports it. Most compromised PBXs I have seen were reachable from anywhere with weak secrets. Build covers trunk registration and failover, extensions, IVR, queues, voicemail, time conditions and routing, tested against real call scenarios including out of hours and failover. Documentation: HLD, network and call flow diagrams, full configuration record, and a runbook for your team covering the routine changes they will make themselves. Available to start, and glad to work to your timeline. Thanks, Adam.

⚡Hello! On server sizing, the number that matters isn't extensions — it's concurrent calls and whether transcoding is involved. Asterisk handles SIP signalling cheaply, but transcoding G.729 to G.711 costs roughly 30x more CPU than passing through. Standardise codecs end to end and modest hardware carries a few hundred concurrent calls; mismatch them and you'll size for four times the box you need. I've deployed and documented FreePBX systems with trunk integration, security hardening and HA design. How I'd approach it: • Requirements first — concurrent calls, recording retention, codec support at your trunk provider — since those three drive every hardware decision. • FreePBX deployed with the system on its own VLAN, SIP restricted to your trunk provider's IPs rather than open to the internet, fail2ban tuned, and the admin interface never publicly exposed. • Trunks, extensions, IVR, queues, voicemail and routing configured with a documented dial plan rather than accumulated ad hoc. • HA options presented honestly: warm standby with config replication is affordable and covers most failures, while true active-active adds cost that isn't always justified. Security is where most FreePBX systems fail — toll fraud on an exposed SIP port can run thousands overnight. Two things to settle: 1. Concurrent calls and extensions? 2. On-premise or cloud? Thank you.

Hi, Serdar here from The Colony. I understand the scope: FreePBX built from installation through trunks, extensions, IVR, queues, voicemail and routing, hardened properly, with HLD, architecture and network diagrams, operational docs and handover — plus sizing guidance for the server itself. On hardening, worth being blunt about why it sits early rather than late. An Asterisk box reachable from the internet starts getting scanned within hours of going live, and successful SIP brute-force turns into international toll fraud overnight. Those charges land on your trunk account, not the carrier's. So I'd put fail2ban, a restricted SIP port, IP-based trunk auth, strong non-sequential extension secrets and a hard block on international dialling except where explicitly needed in place before the system takes its first real call — not as a hardening pass afterward. On sizing, concurrent calls drive hardware far more than extension count, and transcoding is the multiplier. Keeping everything on one codec end to end changes the requirement dramatically, so that's worth deciding before specifying anything. Experience: [your Linux/VoIP background]. Availability: [your hours]. Questions: Q1 – How many extensions, and expected concurrent calls? Q2 – On-prem or cloud-hosted? Q3 – Is a trunk provider chosen yet? Q4 – Is call recording needed? It drives storage most. Best, Serdar

Hello Lattice, I have experience working with VoIP and telecom infrastructure including Asterisk, FreePBX, SIP, call routing and PBX configuration. I can handle the full setup from extensions and IVR to queues and voicemail while keeping the system secure and easy to operate. My approach will be to first understand your expected users and concurrent call volume then design the network and PBX architecture accordingly. I will configure the SIP trunk and call flows then apply security hardening and best practices. I will also provide the HLD, network diagrams, server sizing and hardware recommendations with scalability and redundancy in mind. Complete configuration and handover documentation will be prepared for your team. I am free to start immediately and can work around your preferred approach and recommendations. I will keep communication clear throughout the implementation and can provide knowledge transfer and ongoing support. I am also interested in building a long term working relationship beyond this deployment.

I can support the complete FreePBX/Asterisk delivery, from architecture and server sizing through secure deployment, validation, and handover. The implementation can include SIP trunk integration, extensions, IVR, queues, voicemail, call routing, permissions, backups, monitoring, and security hardening aligned with operational best practices. I can also produce a practical High-Level Design covering solution components, network flows, resiliency considerations, and deployment assumptions. For infrastructure planning, I would size the platform around extension count, peak concurrent calls, codec and recording requirements, storage retention, SIP connectivity, growth expectations, and the desired availability model. The resulting recommendation can compare suitable server specifications, virtualization options, backup strategy, and redundancy approaches. Documentation would include configuration details, network and solution diagrams, operating procedures, troubleshooting guidance, and knowledge-transfer material so your team can manage the environment confidently after handover. I would approach this systematically, validating each component in a controlled rollout and leaving a maintainable, well-documented communications platform.

Thank you so much for sharing the details. What stands out here is that the goal is not simply to install FreePBX—it’s to build a dependable PBX that is properly designed, secured, documented, and easy for your team to operate afterward. I’d approach the deployment from the full solution perspective: FreePBX/Asterisk setup, SIP trunk, extensions, IVR, queues, voicemail, call routing, and security hardening. I’d also document the architecture and network flow clearly, including HLD, configuration details, operational procedures, and handover notes. For the server recommendation, I’d size the solution around your actual extension count, expected concurrent calls, storage needs, redundancy requirements, and future growth rather than suggesting hardware based on guesswork. This should give you a practical balance between reliability and cost. If you can share the expected number of users, concurrent calls, SIP provider, and whether HA is required, I can suggest the appropriate architecture and deployment approach.
