There is nothing more beautiful than a red Ferrari. There is no other car more appealing and prettier than Ferrari F40. Ferrari F40 was the last car which got blessings from the man himself, Mr. Enzo Ferrari. The idea was very simple for Ferrari. Make a light car, put a powerful engine and a huge wing to keep it on ground. F40 was the first production car to have carbon fiber body, mounted on a tubular steel chassis with bonded Kevlar. It was cutting edge back in the day. The car was so basic it didn't even had door panels.
People immediately fell in love with the car. Ferrari planned to make 400 cars but because of the demands, they ended up making over 1300. 1311 to be precise. It is powered by a 2.9L twin turbo V8 engine making over 470 BHP. It propelled the F40 reach and go beyond the 200MPH barrier. It was the first car to do so. Although outside of Fiorano facility, it never did cross 197MPH, so it is still controversial to this day.
But Ferrari was adamant to make it the most potent track weapon of all time. It was tuned for handling by the same team. Which worked for Scuderia Ferrari, Ferrari's F1 team and was regularly road tested by the legendary driver Jacky ickx. NACA ducts was all around the cars so that air could enter and keep the engine cool and also improved downforce. An almost square wing at the back was more for function than looks.
There is a video of a Japanese businessman doing 200mph on public highway, I urge you to search 'F40 200mph highway Japan" on YouTube. It is pure gold. The press had mix reaction to the car. Some liked it some don't, but everyone knew that the old man, Mr. Enzo Ferrari would not stick around for long and this was the last car to receive his blessings. With modern regulations car like F40 may never come in production again. A supercar for road may never exist but it is the most fitting tribute to an automotive legend Mr. Enzo Ferrari.
