Two things decide whether a REScheck passes plan review, and neither is the software. The first is which code your jurisdiction has actually adopted. REScheck will happily generate a report against the 2021 IECC when your building department is still enforcing 2018, or the reverse — and a report run against the wrong code year gets rejected regardless of how good the envelope is. So before running anything I confirm the adopted code and the climate zone with the authority having jurisdiction rather than assuming from the state. The second is that REScheck is a trade-off calculation, not a checklist. It passes on total UA, which means an assembly that falls short can be offset by another that over-performs. That is genuinely useful: if your window U-factor is marginal, the fix is often better ceiling insulation rather than more expensive glazing. If the first run fails I will tell you which change closes the gap most cheaply, instead of just reporting a fail. The other common rejection is mismatch — the report saying R-21 walls while the drawings say R-19, or areas that do not reconcile with the window schedule. I take the values from your actual documents and flag any conflict back to you rather than picking one. You get the REScheck PDF plus the compliance certificate for posting, and the .rck file so it can be revised if the design changes.
