One of the primary challenges traffic systems in many towns today are facing is the problem of congestion on roads. Coupled with high rates of population growth, road transport in most cities today has become increasingly difficult (Jarzab, 2014). Most frequently, emergency vehicles may consistently have challenges in responding as a result of the ineffectiveness in the operation of traffic signal systems. The situation, therefore, calls for the need of an alternative system which can offer a pre-emption mechanism for emergency vehicles.
The benefit of the proposed pre-emption system described here is its ability to reduce the response time by emergency vehicles. The system will allow emergency vehicles to pass through a high volume interconnection faster with minimal conflicts (Jordan & Cetin, 2015). Accordingly, it will allow these vehicles to reach the incident scene quickly thereby reducing the magnitude of losses which would otherwise occur
This proposed TSP system for an emergency vehicle will be beneficial to many stakeholders including state emergency services. To realize such a system, we considered three methods line of sight image identification, acoustic identification and using of RF technology and ended up choosing RF technology as it is more reliable than the other two systems
