I’m starting a full-scale, from-scratch build of a wooden sailboat and I need a skilled craftsperson who can dive straight into precision joinery, fairing and shaping. Every cut must land within a millimetre, and you will be working hands-on with an angle grinder alongside the usual hand planes, chisels and clamps. Router and jig saw and planing and sanding tools. The hull, frames and spars will all be timber. You’ll be cutting ribs, beveling edges, dry-fitting, then gluing and fastening for final assembly, epoxy work. If you spot a better technique while we work, I’m eager to hear it—patience and the willingness to teach and learn together are just as important as technical skill. Core tasks • Millimetre-accurate cutting, shaping and sanding of all wooden components • Collaboration on lofting, jig setup and structural checks before each glue-up • Clean, tidy workspace management and daily progress notes or photos Acceptance criteria • Each frame and plank matches the lofting lines without visible gaps >1 mm • Surfaces are faired smooth, ready for epoxy and glass prior to launch prep • All joints pass a dry-fit test before adhesive is applied • Clear communication on any design, safety or material concerns as they arise If you’re enthusiastic about traditional wooden sailboats and can deliver the craftsmanship this project demands, let’s talk details and schedule the first build session.
