My permanent-resident renewal card was mistakenly destroyed by USCIS on 7 July 2000 after the agency mailed it to an incorrect address. I was visiting Britain at that time and, ever since, every attempt to re-enter the United States has been refused. I am looking for legal consultation that covers one issue: • correcting the address error and securing reissuance of the renewal card, or locate the original green card that USCIS took at that time. You will have the full documentary record at your disposal: previous USCIS correspondence, proof of address, passport and ID copies, a photocopy of the original green card, evidence of each unsuccessful return attempt, and even USCIS’s own guidance showing where their officers may have acted outside the rules. What I need from you is a concise legal strategy that identifies the most effective filings, drafts the necessary forms or motions, and explains next steps I can take immediately—even while still abroad. If you can also outline representation options for any follow-up with USCIS, CBP, or a consular post, please include that as well. I am ready to move forward as soon as I have clear, authoritative advice from a Salt Lake City Attorney, or closeby, who has the experience of a SLC Immigration Judge and preferably in 'good terms' with that Judge and appreciate the documentation available for this case. Although the Gmail to London stated I hadn't yet found the documentation, I have the documentation now . . . --------------------------------------------------------------------- Additional information: - No Form I-407 was signed or submitted - USCIS in Salt Lake City took the original Green Card when renewing it, and later an officer in London told them they had given up their Green Card. After that, they were asked to leave the embassy. They believe this left them unable to return to or stay in the United States. - They also suggested that dealing with the issue through USCIS procedures about Green Card abandonment may be a possible way to fix the situation.
