I wrote a novel, "The Mayor of Olongapo", that carries the story of a young naval aviator who travels to the wild port city of Olongapo in the Philippines. He commits the taboo of falling in love with a Filipina and that sets in motion a conflict of cultures as the protagonist fights peer pressure from biased squadron mates as well as his own doubts. The story also includes threads that bring in the history of the United States and the Philippines after the Spanish-American war. I have had several meetings with Filipino-Americans in the United States and with Filipinos in the Philippines and they enthusiastically support my story as insightful, culturally honest, timely, and the kind of film needed today. I believe I can find funding for the production of the movie but I need a good screen play first. That said, I am in search of a screenwriter who can make my novel into a product that can be marketed but who is willing to bet on the project. I cannot pay upfront.
