I would like to demonstrate the possibility of using a Kinect - preferably the Azure to detect the pose of a rower live during the stroke.
Back arch - (key challenge)
A key challenge is the inherently two dimensional nature of the rowing stroke and the fact that pose detection software is typically designed for front-on detection.
The goal is to understand what is and is not possible with current Technology and how difficult it will be to get a strong pose detection algorithm in place for the rowing motion.
1. Screencap video of someone using a rowing machine as the software detects the position of the above markers with whatever degree of precision is possible - the camera must be side-on to the athlete, and the video must demonstrate the camera detecting the points outlined above. This may be delivered by filming a video on a computer using a kinect or by the developer emulating the rowing motion side on as the software detects their motion.
