Handwriting OCR is genuinely good now, but it is not reliable enough to trust unread on figures. The characters it confuses are exactly the ones that matter on an invoice, 1 and 7, 3 and 8, 0 and 6, and a misread digit produces a perfectly plausible amount that no spell check will ever flag. So OCR alone would be reckless here. What works is using OCR to do the typing and using arithmetic to catch it. Invoices carry their own check, line items should sum to the subtotal, tax should reconcile, subtotal plus tax should equal the total. Anything that does not tie gets flagged and I read that invoice myself. In practice most invoices pass and the flagged handful get human eyes, which is far more accurate than typing all two hundred by hand and far faster. Anything genuinely illegible I mark rather than guess. Are the invoices a consistent printed form with handwriting filled in, or free-form? That changes the accuracy a lot. Ronak
