I need an experienced data specialist to take an old-format XLS file and move it into my SQL database after applying several transformations. The raw worksheet contains multiple sheets of mixed data types, so before anything is loaded I’ll need column mapping, type casting, and a few calculated fields added (we can review the exact logic together). Once the transformation rules are approved, please import everything into the live SQL instance and provide: • A repeatable script or ETL package (Python, SSIS, or similar) • A short README explaining how to rerun the job and tweak the mappings • Verification that every record landed in the correct table with accurate data types and relationships I’ll supply the sample XLS, the current SQL schema, and the transformation notes as soon as we start. Looking forward to a smooth, well-documented import.

You need a controlled XLS-to-SQL migration where every transformation is reviewable and the live import can be repeated without corrupting existing data. At Marin Software, I built Python data pipelines with schema validation, type conversion, calculated fields, error handling, and reconciliation checks. I’ll profile every worksheet first, document the source-to-target column mapping, and implement the approved rules in a configuration-driven Python ETL script. Data will pass through staging tables so invalid types, missing keys, duplicates, and relationship failures are identified before production tables are touched. The live load will use transactions, dependency-aware table ordering, and repeat-safe upserts where appropriate. Verification will reconcile source and target row counts, key totals, null rates, rejected rows, calculated values, and foreign-key relationships. A clear exception report will preserve the sheet, row, field, original value, and failure reason. You’ll receive the reusable script, mapping configuration, requirements file, execution logs, and a concise README covering dry runs, configuration changes, and reruns. Which SQL engine and version are you using, and approximately how many rows are in the workbook?

Hi, I can help you convert the legacy XLS data into your SQL database with a clean, repeatable and fully documented ETL workflow. I can handle: • Review and map the XLS sheets/columns to your SQL schema • Data type conversion, validation and cleaning • Required calculated fields and transformation rules • Python/SQL-based ETL implementation • Loading the transformed data into the appropriate SQL tables while maintaining relationships • Record-count and data-integrity validation after import • A repeatable script/package so the process can be rerun easily • A concise README covering setup, execution, mappings and transformation rules My approach will be to first validate the sample XLS against your current SQL schema and transformation notes, then implement the transformations and perform verification before the live import. I will keep the process traceable so you can identify how source data maps to the destination tables. I have experience working with Python, SQL, data transformation, Excel-based datasets and analytical data workflows, and can deliver a structured and maintainable solution rather than a one-time manual import. Hi, I can handle the complete XLS-to-SQL migration with a reliable, repeatable ETL process, including data cleaning, transformation, validation, and final verification. Proposed approach: • Inspect the XLS sheets and existing SQL schema • Map source columns to the correct database fields • Handle mixed data types, NULLs, dates and numeric conversions • Implement the required calculated/transformed fields • Load data safely into the appropriate tables while maintaining relationships • Validate record counts, data types, keys and relationships after import • Provide a reusable Python ETL script that can be rerun or modified easily Milestones: 1. Analysis & Mapping – 20% Review XLS structure, SQL schema and transformation rules; prepare the column mapping. 2. ETL Development – 35% Build the Python-based extraction, transformation and loading pipeline with error handling. 3. Database Import & Validation – 25% Execute the migration, verify record counts, relationships, data types and data accuracy. 4. Documentation & Handover – 20% Provide the complete source code, configuration, README, rerun instructions and mapping documentation. I’ll make the process repeatable and maintainable rather than performing a one-time manual import. Estimated timeline: 2–4 days, depending on the XLS complexity and transformation rules. Hi — the phrase in your brief that shapes everything is "old-format XLS". Not xlsx. That matters more than it looks. Legacy .xls needs a different reader, and modern openpyxl won't touch it. That's easily handled, but the real issue is what old Excel files do to data on the way in: Leading zeros are gone. Postcodes, account numbers, phone numbers, product codes — anything stored as a number lost its leading zeros the moment it was typed. 01234 is sitting in that file as 1234. No script can recover what isn't there; it can only flag columns where the pattern suggests it happened, so you can decide before it lands in your database as a wrong key. Dates are serial numbers with a display format laid over them. What you see in the cell is not what a reader returns. And older Excel files carry the 1900 leap year bug, so naive conversion can be off by a day. Numbers stored as text. A column that looks numeric will contain a handful of values with a stray space or apostrophe that silently become NULL on cast, quietly changing every total. So my approach: profile every column across every sheet first and give you a report on what each one actually contains versus what it appears to contain. You approve the mappings against real evidence rather than against the transformation notes alone. That's a day well spent when the destination is a live database. On loading into the live instance — I'd stage first. Load into staging tables, run verification there, then move into the real tables inside a single transaction so a failure halfway leaves nothing behind. Loading straight into live tables means a bad row at record 4,000 leaves you half-imported with no clean way back. Verification as you asked: row counts per sheet against per table, numeric column sums compared source to destination, type and null checks per column, and foreign key validation before commit rather than discovering orphans afterwards. One thing worth deciding early: you've asked for a repeatable script. Repeatable means rerunning it must not duplicate what's already there. Either we have natural keys and use a MERGE, or it's truncate-and-reload inside a transaction. Both are fine — they behave very differently if you rerun against partly-updated data, so it's better chosen than discovered. Deliverables: the Python ETL with mappings in a config file rather than buried in code, the README covering rerun and mapping changes, and the verification report from the actual load. Questions: which SQL flavour and version, roughly how many rows across the sheets, and is this a one-off migration or something you'll rerun as the XLS gets updated? That last one decides the whole idempotency design. Send me the sample file and I'll run the column profile before you commit to anything — it takes me an hour and it usually turns up something worth knowing.

Hi, I can take your multi-sheet XLS file, apply the necessary transformations, and import everything into your live SQL database with a clean, repeatable Python ETL script today. How I will handle this for you: • Inspection & Mapping: Parse the sheets using Python (pandas/openpyxl), handle mixed data types, enforce strict type casting, and apply your calculated fields. • Validation: Check relational keys, date formatting, and null values before insertion to ensure zero corrupted rows land in your live database. • Delivery: Run the import into your SQL instance and provide the clean, reusable Python script along with a short README explaining how to rerun it or adjust mappings anytime. I work extensively with Python, PostgreSQL/MySQL, and relational data migrations. I am online right now, ready to review your sample XLS and SQL schema, and can deliver this within hours. Hi, I can help you migrate your legacy XLS data into your SQL database with a clean, repeatable, and well-documented ETL process. I can handle the full workflow, including reviewing multiple worksheets, mapping Excel columns to the SQL schema, cleaning and type-casting mixed data, adding calculated fields based on your transformation rules, validating relationships and keys, and importing the final data into the live SQL instance. I will provide a reusable Python/SQL ETL script or SSIS package, depending on your preferred environment, along with a clear README explaining how to rerun the migration and modify mappings or transformation logic later. I will also perform post-import verification to confirm record counts, data types, table mappings, relationships, and any rejected or problematic rows so the migration can be trusted before completion. Once you share the sample XLS, SQL schema, and transformation notes, I can review them and confirm the implementation approach before making changes to the live database. I’m comfortable working with Excel/XLS, Python, SQL, data transformation, ETL, validation, and database migration, and I’ll keep the solution structured and easy to maintain. I’d be happy to discuss your transformation rules and database environment and get started.

I work with data transformation projects like this regularly — cleaning mixed-type source data, mapping it to a target structure, and handling the type casting and calculated fields before anything touches the live database. My approach: review your sample XLS and current schema first, confirm the exact mapping/calculation logic with you, then deliver a repeatable Python ETL script plus a README explaining how to rerun it or adjust the mappings later. Before loading anything, I verify every record against the source — row counts, data types, and relationships all confirmed correct. Happy to share a quick working sample of this exact workflow (multi-sheet XLS → cleaned → loaded → verified) if useful before you decide.

Hi, I’d be happy to help with this project. I understand that the main work is not just importing the XLS into SQL, but first understanding the different sheets, mapping the columns correctly, handling data types and transformations, adding the required calculated fields, and then making sure everything is inserted into the right tables with the correct relationships. My approach would be to first review the XLS file and your existing SQL schema, confirm the transformation rules with you, and then build a reusable Python-based ETL script for the complete process. I’ll also include proper validation so we can compare record counts, check data types, relationships, missing/duplicate records, and make sure the final data is accurate. I’ve set 4 days as the estimated delivery time in my bid, but the actual time will depend on the size and complexity of the XLS data and the transformation rules. Once I review the files, I can give you a much more accurate timeline. I’ll also provide a simple README explaining how to run the ETL again and where the mappings or transformation rules can be changed. And I’m happy to provide future support if you need adjustments to the mappings, additional imports, changes to the SQL schema, or further automation after the initial migration. If you share the sample XLS, SQL schema, and transformation notes, I can review everything and get started. Thanks! Ruturajsinh
