we want to design a shed size sleeping quarters that can accommodate either one queen size bed or two sets of twin size bunk beds. These sleeping sheds will be located in Paso Robles California, where it can get hot during summer days but is almost always cold at night. Accordingly, the building should be very well insulated.
We also want to maximize light (but no sky lights) and take advantage of views.
The (exterior) maximum foot print of these buildings is 120 square feet. They can be built on a slab or a raised foundation. They will be used for sleeping but it would be a bonus to have some sitting space. Kitchen and bathroom will be in separate buildings.
we are looking for a contemporary design and our material pallet is: core ten steel, correlated galvanized steel, weathered wood, and concrete. We like the "Gulf Islands Cabin" by Olson Kundig Architects, but our "sheds" need to be limited to 120 square feet each.
The design of the shed that accommodates a queen size beed can differ from the design that accommodates two sets of twin beds but they should compliment each other.
Cross ventilation is important and ideally, we will be able to secure these sheds from intruders, when we are away for weeks or months at a time.
