Modernize & Optimize .NET Software

I have a project that contains both a mature WinForms application and ASP.Net web interface. The Winforms application (PileOps V5.5.4.0) is built on .NET 4.7, DevExpress V25.1.4, Entity Framework and a SQL backend, protected with Dinkey dongles. The web interface is ASP.net and bootstrap. The codebase still serves the business well, yet it suffers from out-of-memory crashes and sluggish data operations. My priority is clear: noticeable performance improvements while preserving every ounce of existing business logic and keeping the current database schema intact. Here is where I need your expertise: • Target framework: migrate the solution to .NET 10 (or the newest stable LTS) and shift the UI to the latest DevExpress WPF controls. • Performance focus areas – these must be measurably better in the new build: – Database access speed – Memory management – Concurrency handling • Architect and implement an intermediary service (Windows service or cross-platform host) responsible for licensing and user authentication checks, DB requests, disk I/O and multi-client coordination. This layer will feed both the refreshed Windows client and web front-ends. • Swap or upgrade the current Entity Framework version if that is the most efficient route to faster queries and lighter memory footprints. • Ensure the existing Dinkey copy-protection workflow continues to function without user disruption. • Feature parity is non-negotiable; every rule, calculation and report that works in 5.5.4.0 must work identically post-migration. Acceptance criteria: the modernised solution compiles cleanly, runs side-by-side with the live database, completes a predefined regression test suite without functional drift, and demonstrates benchmarked gains in the three performance areas above. If you have deep experience upgrading WinForms to WPF, fine-tuning Entity Framework or even replacing it with a faster ORM, and you are comfortable threading Dinkey licensing into a new .NET build, let’s talk about the roadmap.
