Hi, I feel there is a mis-calculation somewhere. The AC power at Line voltage of 690V and phase current of 398A will be about 475kW (sqrt(3) VI). DC power at 398V and 398A will be 158kW. Can you please check and correct me. I presume that there is an error in the line currents or I am reading them wrong. I can simply say that AC will be cheaper because of the higher voltage and the fact that your incoming power is AC. But it really depends upon the kind of control you need and how accurate the temperature control has to be. If you need very accurate control, which is not possible with a simple 60 min on, 10 min off strategy then the calculation become more complex. Hello. I am an electrical engineer with over 15 years of experience in working with LV and HV networks. To be honest this task is demanding but I was drawn to curiosity. I have never worked with equipment of this size, max up to 5-6 MW size HV equipment. At first sight i think that AC system is better option, it needs less equipment and thiner cables. I would like to know a few facts: -connection to the network- via transformer or directly -data on the external network or transformer -lengths of cables -cable type and size -heater connection- delta or Y Scheme and calculation can be done but the problem arises when choosing equipment. For example: The current drawn by the heater from the mains is 27500 A. The current carrying capacity of CU bus bars 300x16 is approx. 6000 A. So we need 6 CU bus bars 300x16, near the power supply
