Need help with Samba

I have Samba installed on my FreeBSD server. The server is located offsite in a server farm. I need assistance in configuring both the server and several Windows XP and Windows 7 machines so that directories on the server appear as folders and/or drive letters on the Windows machines. I need to be able to move files between the Windows machines and the server, preferably using the drag and drop method. I also need the files on the server to look like data files to Windows applications (such as having an .xls file reside on the server and have Excel access and manipulate the file from any of the Windows machines). I also need to do this from ANY Windows machine and from ANY location, in other words, the Samba server needs to appear much like a public NAS, but with password security.
