Industrial minerals as engineered systems: cement -- 2

Describe on an annotated flow sheet the life cycle of cement as an industrial mineral. You should

describe the mass flows of raw materials, products, and by-products as a basis for the diagram. It

should also include the major processes in the life cycle (e.g. limestone extraction, waste disposal),

and their associated energy/financial costs (where appropriate/available).

 I am looking for professional standard presentation of graphics that balances content with

presentation effectiveness. Submissions should be an A3 print-out in landscape

 Life cycle means from ‘cradle to cradle’.

 Be explicit with the boundaries of your assessment.

 You may want to describe the cement industry as a whole (e.g. the UK tonnes of X per year),

or normalise the mass flow (e.g. tonnes of X per tonne of cement)

 It is more important to pull together a well defined conceptual model, than trying to

constrain the mass flows.

 Use correct symbols were appropriate.
