In this study, an IGBT based voltage source converter has been used to design the compensator. The voltage source converter used is a capacitor fed two level inverter. Reference compensator currents have been estimated using control algorithm based on instantaneous reactive power theory, also known as PQ theory. In order to generate switching pulses for IGBT switches, PI current control technique has been used. As compared to hysteresis control technique which has undesirable harmonics due to variable switching frequency, PI current control has lower harmonics when tuned properly. Simulation of the circuit has been developed in Matlab Simulink software.
