I need a first-language isiXhosa speaker to transcribe recorded farmer interviews (plus 3 hours of audio, rural Eastern Cape isiXhosa with some English) verbatim, with an English translation alongside, in a simple timestamped Word format I will provide. Postgraduate students in African languages, sociology, development studies or agriculture preferred; previous interview transcription an advantage. Paid per audio minute at a rate to be agreed; confidentiality agreement required. A five-minute paid test clip first

I’d love to help with your isiXhosa transcription project. How about a free consultation to discuss your specific needs and ensure I’m the right fit? Transcribing interviews can be tricky. If the audio quality is poor or dialects are thick, important details might get lost. Missing nuances can lead to misinterpretations, which could affect your research outcomes significantly. I’d start by listening to a sample of the audio first. This way, I can gauge the clarity and any challenges, ensuring an accurate transcription. I focus on precision, and revisions are part of my process to guarantee you’re satisfied. What’s the deadline for the project? Do you have existing transcripts or guidelines I should follow?

I am a BA Media Studies graduate from Wits University with 12+ years of professional experience in isiXhosa - English transcription and translation. I currently work as Bulletin Editor for the isiXhosa Bulletin at Newzroom Afrika, where I edit, translate, transcribe, write and produce daily news content under tight broadcast deadlines. Since 2014, I have provided transcription, translation and voice-over services for SABC, Newzroom Afrika and Lingua Franca. This includes handling diverse accents, rural Eastern Cape isiXhosa dialects, code-switching (isiXhosa/English), and verbatim transcription of interviews - ensuring accuracy, cultural nuance and confidentiality. I am detail-oriented, fast, and experienced in timestamped formats and research interview transcription.
