Based on the learner profile, I firstly identify the strengths and areas of improvement through a diagnostic assessment. It allows me to design a programme that will help him progress quickly without having to stress too much. This particular learner who is preparing for the IELTS Academic will for example need strong describing and summarizing skills, as the task 1 demands it. Secondly, as each test has its own methodology, I always make it a point of honour to ensure that learners master the structure of listening, speaking, reading and writing, including what to do and, more importantly, what not to do. Simulating real test conditions with formative assessment during learning and summative assessment at the end will enable learners to be prepared on the day of the test. To put it simply, the first lesson is for diagnostic assessment, the next nine are for familiarising yourself with the structure of the test (two for listening, two for reading, two for speaking and three for writing) and the rest are for practising and working on areas for improvement. For my online classes, I use Zoom and Google Classroom. I taught intermediate-level learners who, after two months, achieved an average score of 6.5, with the lowest score being 4.5 and the highest 8.5. My learners give me their scores; I do not have access to their certificates.
