We are looking to analyze a dataset for specific health correlations. If you are familiar with [url removed, login to view], NHANES or Framingham and understand how to look at these big data sets, then this project is for you. Look through these publicly available datasets to find one that meets our specific criteria. If you find more than one, you'll get a bonus!
The data set will need to have all of these:
1) data on 100% orange juice consumption in children and adolescents in the United States
2) Age and gender for each participant
3) Data over time, not just one time point - the longer the better e.g. 10 years would be great
Data set will need to have all of these or almost all of these:
b. Body mass index percentile
c. Other anthropometric measures if available (e.g., body fat percentage, waist circumference, z-scores)
d. Overweight/obesity (as measured and categorized by growth charts and accepted cutoffs for BMI percentiles)
e. Blood pressure
f. Total cholesterol
g. LDL cholesterol
h. HDL cholesterol
k. C-reactive protein and other markers of inflammation
l. Fasting serum glucose
m. Fasting insulin
n. HOMA-IR (considering normal ranges for clinical relevance and puberty effects)
It would be great if the data set has these, but they are not necessary:
a. Immune system effects as incidence of illness
b. Behavioral outcomes as school performance
c. Clustered obesogenic behaviors
d. Naturally occurring compared to added sugars and relations to outcomes
This project will involve downloading large datasets and looking through them to find ones that have all the required data and hopefully have some of the additional data as well. You will create a table showing which of the required and requested data each dataset you looked at has and any notes on it.
The turnaround time is asap. We would like at least one dataset found this week.
