I have a client who owns a series of social websites. The client has converted a version of their website into a Facebook canvas application. The client would like to track the online presence of all application users. The app is requesting the online_presence field in its list of permissions. We’ve been trying to use FQL to get a list of all online members associated with the application. It does not seem like that is an options. We tried using the realtime updates to get notices so that we could get an update when the online status changed. However, online_presence is not a graph field and does not seem to update in realtime. Even though it’s an option for the realtime update tool, it does not work. In the past we just used FQL to query each member individually every few minutes. But Facebook didn’t like that and they suspended the queries.
If it is possible to do this, I suspect this should be a very simple project for a developer with knowledge of Facebook. The client simply wants to know when their users are online.
