Non-sinusoidal kinematics (custom piston motion profile) with a dynamically variable compression ratio. Target Mechanical Power: 3.2 kW (at the output rod). Operating Frequency: 150 Hz (9,000 cycles/min). Working Stroke: Dynamic, minimum stroke is ~40 mm. Fuel Delivery: Direct Injection (DI). Extremely short time window for droplet breakup, evaporation, and mixing (< 2 ms). Aspiration: External forced induction (supercharged). The specific scavenging layout, port geometry, and valve configuration are open and should be proposed by you based on efficiency goals. Scope of Work: 1. 1D Concept & Gas Dynamics: Propose and justify the scavenging architecture (uniflow, loop, etc.). Perform 1D Time-Area calculations to size the ports and determine the required cylinder bore to achieve 3.2 kW at 150 Hz / 40 mm stroke. 2. 3D CFD Scavenging Simulation: Build a 3D model using moving mesh (AMR) to simulate gas exchange. Optimize the port and piston crown geometry to maximize Trapping Efficiency and Scavenging Efficiency while minimizing pumping losses. 3. Combustion & Multiphase DI Modeling: Simulate the Direct Injection process and combustion chemistry. Optimize injection timing and turbulence (Swirl/Tumble) to ensure complete combustion and low emissions. Expected Deliverables: Optimized 3D CAD geometry for the cylinder liner (ports) and piston crown. Performance report including estimated BSFC, Indicated Thermal Efficiency, and emission trends. Required supercharger specifications (absolute pressure and mass flow). Data Arrays: P-V diagrams (cylinder pressure profiles vs. piston position) at various fuel loads. This is critical for our control system architecture. Required Skills & Software: Deep understanding of 2-stroke scavenging, unsteady gas dynamics, and custom piston motion dynamics. Proficiency in advanced engine simulation software with moving mesh and combustion models (e.g., CONVERGE CFD, Ansys Forte, OpenFOAM). Experience with 1D/3D coupling (GT-POWER, Ricardo WAVE, or EngMod2T) is highly preferred. How to Apply: Please start your proposal with the word "SCAVENGING" so I know you have read the full description. In your cover letter, briefly mention which software stack you plan to use to handle the moving mesh and the 150 Hz Direct Injection simulation.

Hi, At Vutuk Design and Media, we bring over 15 years of mechanical engineering, advanced numerical CFD simulation, thermal modeling, and high-end technical visualization expertise. Our engineering team conducts full 3D transient in-cylinder engine simulations using ANSYS Fluent—combining dynamic mesh movement with multiphase fluid physics to optimize combustion chamber design, port flows, and thermal efficiency. To help us scope your engine CFD modeling framework: What specific engine layout (single-cylinder research engine, multi-valve automotive, or two-stroke/four-stroke heavy duty) are we simulating? What are the key operating boundary conditions (engine RPMs, intake manifold boost pressure, fuel injection timing, wall temperatures)? Are there specific performance goals, such as reducing pressure losses across the intake valve or optimizing swirl ratio? Would you like photorealistic 3D rendered cutaway visuals or animated velocity/temperature vector videos produced for presentation reports? We invite you to visit our profile and portfolio page to evaluate our past numerical fluid simulation and 3D visual showcase work. Let's discuss your project! Best regards, Vutuk Design and Media

The high-frequency operation and extremely short fuel injection window present a significant risk for achieving proper fuel atomization and mixing before combustion. I handle this risk by using specialized CFD solvers, such as ANSYS Fluent, configured for transient, high-speed turbulent flows and coupled with detailed spray models to accurately predict droplet breakup and mixing within the < 2 ms timeframe. I will build the mathematical model of the working cycle and design the gas exchange architecture using AVL BOOST, then use CFD to optimize combustion, aiming for maximum fuel efficiency and minimum exhaust emissions on your 2-stroke engine. The result will be an optimized combustion chamber geometry and injection strategy for your 3.2 kW, 150 Hz power unit. For the dynamically variable compression ratio, will you be modeling this as discrete steps or a continuous function? I need the initial geometry of the cylinder and porting to begin the CFD analysis. I have a 5.0 rating across 10 reviews on here, and Preferred Freelancer status.

Greetings! SCAVENGING I can model your 2-stroke engine working cycle, design the gas exchange architecture, and optimise combustion before prototyping, with the goals of lowest BSFC and minimum emissions. Multiphase DI and combustion modeling in Ansys Forte to optimize injection timing (SOI 300–320 CA) and swirl/tumble for stable lean-burn combustion. Single vs. split injection compared for fuel stratification around the spark plug. Higher tumble from eight-port design tested with later single injection at 320 CA. 1D/3D coupling between WAVE and Forte ensures accurate boundary conditions and captures unsteady gas dynamics. Deliverables: Optimized CAD (cylinder liner ports, piston crown), BSFC and indicated thermal efficiency report, emission trends, supercharger specs, P-V diagrams at various fuel loads, injection strategy recommendations. Software: Ricardo WAVE (1D gas dynamics), Ansys Forte (3D CFD, moving mesh, 150 Hz DI simulation).
