I am a former Sergeant in the USMC, Entrepreneur with four small incorporated businesses (34 employees) and Associate Professor currently and for the last 14 years. Months before leaving for USMC boot camp through deployment to the Gulf region and my honorable discharge I documented my experiences. I wrote as an means of escape and release, never intending for anyone to read. My writing is deep, often dark and intense, as well as uplifting and motivational, all is true emotion and thoughts of a young Marine.
Over the years living in San Diego, dealing with students and clients from all branches of the military, coupled with the astronomical rate of military related depression and increasing suicide rates I decided to follow up on a project that I was told years ago I should have pursued.
That project being a book to help young military service members, single and married (I was married two days after boot camp, still married 18 years later), parents and loved one get an idea and understanding what goes through the mind of military service member. Of course I understand my writings, my mind and emotions and circumstances are mine, however, from the hundreds I have spoken with over the years there is most definitely a common ground and similaries.
After speaking with published authors, countless military service members and their family, I have been convinced to at least attempt to present my idea.
My idea is to create a book that uses my actual writings in conjunction with other concepts (yet to be determined) to help military members, loved ones and family to understand what can go on in the mind and with the emotions of a military member. I want to help military service members understand how to deal with those emotions I want to teach family members, spouses and loved ones what to expect and how to help make the deployments and time in the military easier to cope with for them and the military member. I want to teach the married couples how to deal with deployments and military life and keep their marriage strong despite the depression, the doubts and thoughts of unfaithfulness that will occur.
I feel that this book could be an entertaining, educational and enlightening story that will help countless military members, potential military members, family members and any one else interested to understand the emotions and feelings our countries brave military service members and their family go through.
There are many ways this project could go. Obviously I am not a writer and obviously I'm not a pitchman nor do I know the first thing about writing a book. All I know is that I have been convinced that what I wrote throughout my time in the USMC and what I learned and what I've been able to do with that over the years could literally help save a life.
I am looking for someone who does know what they are doing and how to construct the story properly to help me accomplish this feat.
Thank you for your time!
