the risk on live-entry work is not typing speed. it is that data typed while talking is data typed distracted, and the errors it produces are the quiet kind. so the way i work it: the sheet gets entered during the call, then verified after it, not instead of. phone numbers and email addresses get read back to the person on the line before hanging up, which takes a few seconds and catches almost everything. a wrong digit that nobody reads back is a record that looks complete and is worthless, and you will not find out for weeks. the excel traps that specifically bite on contact data: leading zeros stripped from numbers unless the column is set to text beforehand, and dates flipped between day-first and month-first formats, which is the dangerous one because the value still looks plausible. i set the column formats before the first call rather than repairing them afterwards. on the notes column, a small thing that pays off later: a consistent short vocabulary rather than free prose. wrong number, not interested, call back, no answer, gatekeeper. free text is unsortable, and the point of the sheet is being able to act on it. before starting i need to know which country and timezone the list covers so calls land in working hours, and what you want done when a number is dead. that one decision changes how much of the list is actually reachable.
