I'm working with a local non-profit organization to build a directory of affordable housing in the area for our clients. I've found (and purchased) a theme that accomplishes 85% of what we need it to do. There are some small workflow issues that I'd like to change, especially relating to the data entry/submission steps.
The theme I'm talking about is called SpotFinder ([url removed, login to view]). If you look at any one of the demo websites and attempt to add your own listing, you'll notice that there is a pretty easy-to-use UI to do so. It's easy to add new fields to the form but they're added to the "accordion" menu in the bottom right. Because of the nature of our workflow, I'd like to change how some of the custom fields are displayed (i.e. display a bunch of checkboxes at once instead of one-at-a-time as the default).
As per my understanding, this should only be a change at the template level and shouldn't require much database level and/or traditional programming work.
