I have a small .txt file located outside of my webspace (ie... it's not located in /public_html/ on my server) - this text file contains a bunch of switches/tags/settings for my no longer supported forum software (I'm not in a position to find something new right now). It's a small [url removed, login to view] KB file. Among many other very short lines in that text file is the following line:
The number is always either 0 or 1 ... 1 will disable posting abilities on my forum (called "Maintenance Mode"), 0 will enable posting abilities. For some odd reason, and on random days, a cPanel update will trigger this "Maintenance Mode" at approximately 3am. Since it is so random, I sometimes don't realize that nobody can post on my forum until 11-12am. I don't know if the cPanel update is altering this particular file or not, but I do know that changing the line in this file will fix the problem.
What I want from this project is: some sort of cron job that will run at 4am daily and scan this text file - if the "maintenance=" line shows 1, then it automatically changes it back to 0. No other new or existing lines in that text file should be disturbed. No access will be given to my server, nor will details of where that server is - all text/instructions to complete this project must be sent via freelancer private messaging system.

Hi, I can write a perl script which you can put it in cron. The script will match the maintenance=0 part in the text file and change its value to 1. Ready to start now. Thanks.
I can create a shell script and schedule it in cron job. Script will check the value of maintenance and if it is 1 then it will change its value to 0.
