To scale a soil and mulch operation, the focus must shift from "moving dirt" to "managing a chemical and mechanical process." My approach focuses on reducing waste (shrinkage), ensuring consistency in every bag or bulk load, and streamlining the flow from raw intake to final dispatch. Methodology & Approach 1. Raw Material & Inventory Management Implementing standardized testing for incoming raw material and to ensure consistent blending. Optimizing the physical layout of raw piles to minimize loader travel time (and fuel costs). 2. Mixing & Blending Optimization Developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for specific mixes Establishing a maintenance schedule for conveyors and hoppers to prevent bottlenecking. 3. Quality Control (QC) & Packaging Creating physical and data-driven benchmarks for every product line. Implementing automated or semi-automated check-weighing to reduce product giveaway and ensure bag integrity during storage. 4. Distribution Logistics Optimizing pallet stacking and truck loading patterns to maximize the volume shipped per mile. Integrating a simple FIFO (First-In, First-Out) inventory system to prevent the degradation of organic materials in storage.
