If you are an experienced Java programmer, this should be easy for you. I have instructions, tips and a skeleton for the project. I also have notes that will help you complete it. This project was designed for an intermediate level java programming course.
I need someone who is detail oriented, and can meet all of the requirements set forth by the project. This project should not take long at all.
Here is an overview:
Your project is to implement a dictionary as a hash table, and load it with data (from a file) representing city and town populations. The key to lookup is the combination of town and state (both Strings), and the value returned is the population (integer). You will try several different hashing functions and collision resolution strategies, and measure their impact on the performance of the lookup operation. You’ll also compare lookup performance for the hash table to lookup performance for a simple array using linear (or if you get ambitious) binary search. Your project will include a command-line interface as before, but much simpler. Opening the data file, tokenizing it, parsing it, and inserting it into your hash table and array will take a little more work this time.
