Description of Role (with Basic Activities)
We are looking for a highly competent individual who is motivated by a challenge and keen to undertake the front-end development of this Web-based service using the latest Web technologies.
Our focus is on building a Minimal Viable Product as rapidly as possible to run experiments and test our business model using Lean Startup approach. Most of functionality is implemented on backend service (using Scala/Akka/CQRS).
The right person will be given autonomy in achieving this vision, expected to be proficient and highly productive in leading-edge development technologies (as mentioned), and keen to help us reinvent higher education.
They will work with the founders and to design the user experience and develop the client-side single-paged applications using an agile-approach to software development. Client-side must integrated with backend server-side using REST-like API.
It is critical that the individual is self-motivated, can work independently and remotely, is highly productive, is keen to learn and can learn exceptionally fast, and high integrity.
It is essential that the candidate has demonstrated knowledge and skills with experience in:
- experience with Facebook’s React.JS and associated technologies (e.g. Redux, and possibly Relay/GraphQL),
- modern single-page applications Web application (SPA) development,
- integration with backend services using REST-like APIs,
- modern software development technologies (e.g. Git),
- modern software development approaches (e.g. agile and continuous integration),
- good / conversational oral English communication skills, and
- some basic Web design skills.
The successful applicant must be reliable and trustworthy, and communicate frequently, openly and honestly about the work they have done and are doing and their context.
Desirable (but not essential) Criteria
It is desirable that the individual has:
successfully completed a technical computer science or computing degree (three or four years) at an established institution,
some graphic design knowledge and skills (although significant graphic design work will be outsourced as needed).
The successful applicant will be working remotely but will be available for daily interactions with the other team members and a weekly Skype discussion.

Shortlisted applicants may be required to undergo testing and/or to complete a sample development task in real-time for which they will be remunerated.
Compensation will generally be a flat-rate per weekly iteration. The job will require rapid development of multiple SPAs, so this is not a time to be learning these technologies.
