I have 500 brochures from various companies which belong to various industries and each brochure may contain a different spectrum of products. I need someone to help me classify this so that it is easily accessible to my employees. My idea is to create a simple database in Access. I was heavily using Access about 10 years ago, then my career shifted and I have not used Access for a long time, but I can communicate effectively on the design and structure of the database.
What we use now is an Excel file, there are something like 20 sheet tabs in that Excel, one for each "product category" (I am sorry I cannot send it to you), and in each sheet there is just plain information on the company name, address, email, and a cell with keywords which relate to that brochure. So, when a user tries to find eg. binoculars, it will show those rows which contain that keyword, and in this way we are directed to the x company and eventually to the x brochure. The brochures are categorized, so in each sheet tab there is also a column that next to the company name, it says brochure 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 and so on. This 2.1 corresponds to a specific location of the cupboard. This Excel is working ok, but I do not find it user friendly and information is not neat and tidy. One more comment: say in cupboard location 3.1 there are say 20 brochures, you have check all of them for the one you are looking for.
Let me have your idea, for which I admit, you will not get paid. However, due to the importance of this database to me, I am willing to pay a fair amount. You do not need to be a highly skilled VBA user, but I need you to be professional, punctual, and reliable. Oh, and work with me on design as we progress, and also provide me with free updates (minor modifications may be needed during the first months of use) for one year.
I cannot include everything here, but that is the main concept. For the person I will decide to cooperate with, payment will be done in instalments, no payment for plain communication and exchange of ideas, no payment if you produce something that I do not like, but I promise that if modifications are needed I will not walk away, I will work with you giving you directions and instructions, 10% after I approve the design and the relationships, 40% when you deliver the project to me completed, and 50% in six months after completion. We will make a proper service agreement so that I know what to expect and that you also know what to except from my side.
I would like to cooperate with an English speaking guy, I will not waste time in communication trying to read between the lines.
