3000 Sunsets began as the blog of a woman who was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and late stage colon cancer as she reached her 40th birthday. Each day at sunset, she snapped a picture, recounted the blessings, joys, and lessons of that day. As she did, she herself was transformed. She no longer counted days on the calendar, but began to embrace the moments, and found herself really LIVING the days, rather than surviving.
An amazing thing happened as others began to read and share the journey. They also began to be transformed as they stopped at sunset and recounted their own blessings, joys and lessons, or simply meditated on something inspirational. People began to be transformed from human DOINGS (going through the motions of the daily grind) to human BEINGS (living with gratitude and intention.) One of the most persistent challenges that people face in developing the habit of living with gratitude and intention is remembering to stop and be thankful, inspired, and joyful. In a recent brainstorming session, we hit on the idea of a mobile phone app that pops up a reminder each day that inspires people to stop for a few moments each day and engage in the practice of an intentional and grateful life. I would think it could operate more or less like an alarm app, either linked to the actual time of sunset, or with the user setting the time for the daily reminder. The original idea was to pop up a rotating catalog of sunset pictures with an inspirational quote or reminder (we will provide these) - no audible alarm, just the visual reminder. My guess is that trying to link to actual sunset time may make this much more complicated that it really has to be, and so allowing the user to set the time for the daily reminder would be sufficient if sunset proves too complex.
3000 Sunsets has no income, and of course with the author fighting two life-limiting diseases, her resources are completely consumed. I have been inspired by her journey, and am pursuing this project as a donation to help others. My budget is small, but I'm hoping that an experienced developer can guide me in creating something simple enough to be affordable, and inspiring enough to transform many more lives. I'm not wanting to make it complicated, and am open to discussion about how to create the right app to accomplish the purposes. The absolute maximum that I can spend right now to accomplish this project is $300. If this works well, then after the holidays I will budget to also have it created for the iphone. If you have experience with both platforms, and are willing to work in stages to roll out android now, and iphone after the holidays, I would be grateful for your bid and assistance. If you can provide a package price to do both apps that would be amazing. For all respondents, thank you for helping me further the work of a really amazing person who is changing lives as she battles for her own.
