Another type of App found on App stores are “educational games”. These are immersive full-screen Apps that offer a range of learning activities. For example, some educational games on the Play store are designed to help children improve their hand-eye coordination. There are Apps that also help kids explore various levels of reading, writing, maths, and science. Recently, Apps that help children learn to program have become popular.
Your task is to design a simple educational game for high school kids between the ages of 12 and 13 that helps them specifically with early highschool maths and/or problem solving.
Assume that these kids understand how to use GUI touch interfaces. Naturally these kids expect fast and engaging graphics, animations, and sounds. Hence, your App's GUI design should be intuitive, clear, responsive, and visually interesting.
Kids in this age group are introduced to a variety of analytical thinking skills and problem-solving skills at school for which traditional teaching styles have become less effective for the modern generations. Hence, your App should include activities that rely on some combination of memory, pattern recognition, and it should promote patience.
Your App is required to have four screens: 1) landing page, 2) game screen, 3) settings screen, and 4) high scores screen.
General requirements and suggestions:
Students are expected to base their work on subject content from weeks 1-9
The minimium API level is 19 - that makes it easier / quicker for us to mark your work!
The App must include at least one appropriate use of sensor programming. For example, a shake gesture might signal a game "restart" or "shuffle" action
The App must support basic social network integration. You are strongly encouraged to use the example code from class about the Twitter4J API
Think of your App as a "proof-of-concept". Make it include enough content (e.g. quizzes / questions / tasks / puzzle) to clearly show the App's educational purpose
For the high scores, you are expected to use Android SQLite Helper APIs.
The use of fragments is encouraged only for the game screen. This allows the App to run with an appropriate UI in both portrait and landscape modes.
Use the settings screen to adjust different aspects of your App. For example, control the background music and sound effects, adjust the duration of gameplay, adjust the game difficulty, or perhaps adjust the look-and-feel of the GUI switching between light and dark modes
