I am an Australian solicitor. When I meet (or phone) a client I must immediately record the details of my legal advice and the time taken in the phone call/conference. Most solicitors make a handwritten file note on a pre-printed form known in the legal industry as a 'File Note'.
The File Note records the details of the legal advice and the length of the call/conference for client billing purposes. The 'File Note' contains the following headers: Matter Name, Matter Number, Date, Solicitor, Place/Location, Telephone/Court/Conference, With whom, Start time, End time, billable units and action.
There is a large section in the File Note for writing the details of the engagement and a smaller section for recording the next steps (Action).
I require an i-phone app to replace the handwritten file-note. It needs to be user friendly and streamline the data entry. The data can be typed in manually or preferably entered by voice dictation. The date and solicitor name should auto populate. The app should also remember the names of previous matters and auto suggest. It should also auto populate the billable units after the start and end times are entered. The app file note should have the company logo. This should be uploadable for app purchasers.
Upon completion the File Note is emailed or sms'd to whoever is required.
Note: solicitors time cost in 6 minute increments. Each 6 minutes is known as a 'billable unit'. 0 minutes to 5 minutes and 59 seconds equals 1 billable unit. 6 minutes to 11 minutes and 59 seconds equals 2 billable units. 12 minutes to 17 minutes and 59 seconds equals 3 units etc etc.
