I’m rebuilding the optics in my light-measurement device. Right now the module relies on two lenses, a circular diffuser plate, and an aperture to guide visible light from a 30 mm entrance circle down to the 5 mm active area of the detector. It works, but the cost of the double-lens stack is no longer acceptable. Your mission is to engineer a new light path that achieves the same 30 mm-to-5 mm concentration using just one readily available, low-cost catalogue lens. Please analyse the ray geometry, calculate transmission and spot size, and confirm that we stay within the detector’s field of view while avoiding vignetting or excessive aberrations. If a minimal diffuser or baffle is still required, specify it, but the core goal is a single-element solution. I will need: • A clear justification for the chosen lens (datasheet reference or part number) • Ray-trace or analytical calculations showing energy throughput and spot diameter across the visible spectrum • A simple mechanical drawing or step file that positions the lens at the required distance from both the entrance port and the measurement chip, including tolerances tight enough for 3-D printing or basic machining • An estimate of optical efficiency versus my current setup so I can judge the trade-off between cost and performance Feel free to use Zemax, OpticStudio, OSLO, Code V, or open-source tools such as Python+Raysect; just include screenshots or exported reports so I can reproduce the numbers. If the design meets the 5 mm spot size with at least the same photon throughput I have now, I’ll consider the job successfully completed and move straight to prototyping.

Hello, I’m Muhammad Awais. I’ve reviewed your Single-Lens Optical Path Redesign project. You want to replace the two-lens stack with a single, low-cost catalog lens to demagnify 30 mm entrance to 5 mm detector while avoiding vignetting and minimizing aberrations. My approach is to select a short-focal-length lens around 4.3–4.7 mm and place it so that the object distance is about s ≈ 7f and the image distance s' ≈ 7f/6. This yields 6x demagnification in a compact form. With f ~ 4.3 mm, the diffuser sits roughly 30 mm from the lens and the detector ~5 mm behind, aligning with the 5 mm active area. I will verify ray geometry, spot size and throughput across 400–700 nm with Python+Raysect or OpticStudio, and provide a simple CAD/STEP showing lens positions with tolerances suitable for 3D printing. I’ll include a datasheet reference for the chosen lens, exportable ray-trace reports, and a clear comparison of optical efficiency vs your current setup to help you decide on prototyping. If minimal diffusion is needed, I’ll specify it; otherwise I’ll keep it simple and low cost. Please confirm the following to finalize the design: - Are you open to a 4.3–4.7 mm focal-length lens and the s ≈ 7f arrangement described above, given your mechanical constraints? - What is the maximum acceptable amount of vignetting or wavefront error across 400–700 nm? - Is a minimal diffuser acceptable, or must we avoid any diffusion to preserve throughput? - What are your tolerances for lens-to-port

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Thank you for the detailed brief. CnELIndia, led by Raman Ladhani, can support this project end-to-end with a cost-optimized, single-element optical redesign. We will first analyse your existing 30 mm to 5 mm geometry and detector FOV to establish baseline étendue, throughput, and aberration limits. Raman will then evaluate catalogue plano-convex and aspheric lenses from suppliers such as Thorlabs or Edmund Optics, selecting a low-cost, readily available part that meets NA and spectral requirements, with full datasheet justification. Using Zemax/OSLO and Python-based ray analysis, we will model ray paths across the visible spectrum, calculate spot size, transmission, and vignetting margins, and compare efficiency directly against your current dual-lens stack. If uniformity or angular control requires it, we will specify a minimal diffuser or baffle with quantified losses. CnELIndia will deliver a dimensioned mechanical layout and STEP file showing lens placement, tolerances suitable for 3D printing or basic machining, and alignment guidance. Finally, we will provide a clear efficiency and cost comparison to support rapid prototyping and confident design trade-offs.
