We need an application to compliment our website. This application (call it applicationX for now) would let people "de-bundle" content from different web pages and re-arrange it how they want. Imagine if your browser could extract/view just the text of a news story at cnn.com. The idea would be not just to view just images or text, but to be able to organize these things into "bundles" which would be organized like an outline. Imagine that you could create a node on your outline called "sports cars", then you could drag images of sports cars directly from your normal browser to ApplicationX, or if you are using ApplicationX you could just control click and select the node you want this image added to. ApplicationX will store the link to the image/content (and the image itself if the user chooses) in that bundle, along with information about that image if the website has an [url removed, login to view] ([url removed, login to view]) file to provide meta-data about that content. For each type of content there will be lots of display options (more space between images, reduce all to 75% scale, etc).
Now take the idea even further. Imagine that ApplicationX is part of a network. Every content bundle you create is public by default. Other users can do searches for bundles called "sports cars", or do a search for any bundle that contains links with the URL "[url removed, login to view]". ApplicationX will make it very easy to modify any bundle you find by adding or deleting content.
To make this a true network, ApplicationX will make it easy to share a specific bundle with a specific person. You could send a content bundle (just the URLs of the bundle) to your friend by dragging that bundle on top of your friend's nickname. At some point (phase 2 or 3), all this could be tied into subdomains, so that you could go to [url removed, login to view] and see a page with contained every one of user jake35's public bundles, organized as always in hierarchical, outline format. If jake35 so chooses, he could let people (or just certain users) drag images or url's to an "incoming" area, where they would be added to the incoming node of his main outline.
If you would like to see a visual representation of this idea just post a bid/comment.
